This is an extremely fine World War II U.S. Navy Submarine Warfare Officer’s Badge that is in excellent condition. It is the “Deep Wave” variant of the badge and is extremely well struck. It exhibits very sharp detail to the dolphins, boat, and waves at the bottom of the badge. The dolphin’s scales are crisp, with the tail fins being cut out. The gilt finish is 100% intact. The reverse is semi hollow and retains the functional pin and roller locking catch. It is nicely marked ‘GEMSCO, NY’ in raised letters on the left reverse and, ‘STERLING’ on the reverse right. Marked at the base of the conning tower is ‘1/20 10k GF’. The badge is an outstanding example of the scarce “Deep Wave” variant and measures 2¾ inches from end to end. It is completely without damage, remaining a very fine example as awarded to officers of the elite and highly perilous Silent Service during the Second World War.
