Volume I - viii, [1]-48, 81-88, 57-317, erratum; v, 351 [blank], publisher's advertisement. Misbound: one gathering in Volume I:, p 49-56, is missing. In its place is another gathering:. p 81-88 ,  2 pages 167, 2 pages 168 as noted in errata, and repeating pages 263-270.

Volume II - v, Pages 1- 351 and a one page ad.
 
Full contemporary tree calf, spine tooled in gilt, with red leather labels, title gilt.  Contents are clean, tight and in very good condition.

Second edition, the first with revisions and corrections, which were approved by Alexander Hamilton, and the first to include the Federal Constitution with the first eleven amendments. Also new to this edition is Hamilton's The Proclamation of Neutrality ( by "Pacifus") The authors of the Federalist are identified for the first time, in the preface: " The work is principally the production of a man whose talents and integrity render him the ornament and boast of this country: the name of Hamilton will be held in sacred respect... Two other gentlemen of distinguished abilities, Mr. Jay and Mr. Madison, contributed some essays.
