Alderney (French: Aurigny; Auregnais: Aoeur'gny) is the most northerly of the Channel Islands. It is part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey, a British Crown dependency. It is 3 miles (4.8 km) long and 1.5 miles (2.4 km) wide. The area is 3 square miles (7.8 km2), making it the third largest island of the Channel Islands, and the second largest in the Bailiwick. It is around 10 miles (16 km) to the west of La Hague in the Cotentin Peninsula, Normandy, in France, 20 miles (32 km) to the north-east of Guernsey and 60 miles (97 km) from the south coast of England. It is the closest of the Channel Islands to France as well as being the closest to England. It is separated from Cap de la Hague by the dangerous Race of Alderney (Le Raz). Alderney was known as Aurigny in Norman times, and is still known as such in France. In fact the small local airline bears the ancient Norman name, although it is believed that the planes are from a more modern era. The Island has never issued it’s own postage stamps or indeed had it’s own postal administration; but many stamps have been issued using the Alderney name or on it’s behalf. As with Jersey and Guernsey, British postage stamps were used from 1840 until 1969 with the exception of the German Occupation years. Revenue stamps were the first stamps, not for postage, but for stamp duty, tax, etc. They were in use from January 1923 until 1st April 1962. The Commodore Shipping Company Ltd. carried GPO mail by boat between Alderney and Guernsey between 1962 and 30th September 1969. They also ran a parcel delivery service by arrangement with The States of Alderney and The Government of Sark.The company issued stamps or carriage labels which were used for this; these issues consisted of a definitive set and a Europa set and from 1964 minisheets were introduced. Although some were genuinely used for the carriage of parcels, the fact that from the 1964 Europa issue onwards the printing came under the control of a London wholesale stamp dealer and the large number of similar issues, great number of varieties, errors, imperf sets, trials, proofs and overprints make it seem that these were issued purely for the philatelic market. On 1st October 1969 The Alderney Shipping Company took over the parcel delivery service, issuing just two typeset labels. These were withdrawn in 1975. The Alderney Parcel Delivery Service was set up in 1974 for the carriage of parcels to and from the island. Stamps first issued in that year used a combination of rubber stamps, typewritten and printed items, with pictorials available in 1975. In 1984 issues ceased after Alderney issued it’s own postage stamps. Delivery services continued and in 1990 issues resumed and still continue today. On 14th June 1983 the Guernsey Post Office issued stamps for use in Alderney and valid in Guernsey. Birds were the subject of the first Alderney commemorative set on 12th June 1984, on 5th May 1994 the first stamp booklet was issued,with the first minisheet celebrating the ‘50th Anniversary of Return of Islanders to Alderney’ on 16th November 1995.

To shorten the descriptions of covers, postal stationery and postcards we defined quality characteristics - these correspond to the usual catalogs (classification into 3-5 grades). The usual conservation of covers, postal stationery and postcards to 1945 in most cases is 3 *; covers, postal stationery and postcards with 4 * or even 5 * cause significant price premiums.

description / Prices
The
assessment of the conservation of postcards, stamps, postal history:
covers and postal stationery probably always subject to the eye of
the respective viewer. Nevertheless, the products on offer are
described with the utmost care and illustrated.
However, please
note that the vast majority of my items on offer are COMMERCIALLY
USED DOCUMENTS and whose preservation was always subject to the

For
postage and packing costs (stiffening cardboards, insert cards, etc.)
I take a fair shipping fee, which is intended to cover the cost. You
get the item(s) carefully packed and if possible with philatelic postage
(except parcels).
The "reasonableness" of shipping
costs can probably only judge of who knows ALL the facts and factors
(among other including 30% of the shipping costs go to the tax
authorities (VAT) and Ebay (commission on the P & P
costs)).
Take
advantage of the Combined Shipping
In
this case, the shipping costs are based on the respective highest
amount as base amount and then a certain additional amount is claimed
for each additional product. The maximum shipping costs are when delivered in Germany 8.- Euro; To the EU
countries and other foreign countries to a maximum of 20.- Euro / 20 GBP.
An essential prerequisite is the
ability to combine multiple purchases in ONE invoice.
The Ebay
system however, ONLY allow this when you DO NOT pay independently and
individually. In
order to benefit from the shipping discount, all items must also be
ordered within a maximum of fourteen days.

Die übliche Erhaltung der Briefe, Ganzsachen und Ansichtskarten bis 1945 ist in den meisten Fällen 3*; Briefe, Ganzsachen und Ansichtskarten mit 4* oder sogar 5* bedingen teilweise nicht unerhebliche Preisaufschläge.

größtmöglicher Sorgfalt beschrieben und bebildert.
