There is information that this model of the Chelyabinsk watch factory was originally intended for civilian aircraft; it was also installed on all types of single-engine military aircraft. But over time, it became more widespread. So the tankers say that this clock installed to their tanks.

Before modernization, the watch was simply called AVR - aviation with bezel. Production started in the early forties of the last century. And this clock was really installed on domestic tanks, for example, the famous T-34. But both the AVR and the AVR-M are well acquainted with the signalmen, those who served in the air defense, and other military men.

It is easiest to distinguish an AVR from an AVR-M clock by the number of screws that secure the back cover. AVR has six, AVR-M has three. In addition, military samples are equipped with a heating element, which allows you to keep the watch working at low temperatures.

On the dial, the marking “5 days” is most often found for this reason, they are called by the watchmakers - five-day. Much less often on the dial you can see the marking “8 days”. It is believed that “8 days” was written on the dial of an AVR clock (an earlier model, not modernized).

The AVR-M watch with the B index on the dial, released before 68-70 of the last century, was produced using lume, which included radium salts. A rather dangerous radioactive composition, the half-life of radium is 1600 years. Since 1970, watches have been using a safer composition that does not contain radioactive components.

On the basis of this mechanism, the Chelyabinsk watch factory produced the so-called civilian version of the AVR-M clock. If the “military” watch of the ABP-M did not have a case, since it was intended for installation in the dashboard along with other devices, the civilians were produced in their own case and usually had the usual bright dial with dark hands.

Unfortunately this clock do not have shockproof mechanism, therefore, with a strong shock or fall, it almost always fail. On the other hand, such an engineering approach made it possible to reduce the cost of clocks for production and, accordingly, the buyer.
