Lion Head Frosted
butter dish Manufactured by Gillinder & Sons, Philadelphia PA. circa 1877.
The glass is clear with frosting on the lion’s head, and any colors you see in
the photographs are reflections from indoors where I photographed the
piece. The butter dish has the mold
marks and straw marks and bubbles common in this era of glassware. impression
from the mold is nice and sharp. Color and clarity of the glass is excellent. There
are very small chips on the underside of the bowl at the six points and two
others. One tiny bruise on flange, frosted lion’s head finial shows a little
wear. The collar below the lion’s head
is haphazardly frosted. Looks like one finger print and the acid etch is not
applied to the outside edge. 6 ¼”
diameter and height about 7 1/4” Please email with questions or comments.
Weight before packing 1.750 pounds.
Charming!
