Fifth printing of the first mass market paperback edition of The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien (Ballantine Books, 1965). Very hard to find early printing with original cover art which depicts a lion near bottom of front cover. This was later removed per Tolkien’s request since there was no lion in the story moderate wear to covers, including tear to front cover where price once was, chipping and creases around the edges, small stained areas, and general tanning to covers. Spine remains fairly straight and binding is firm. Small stain to lower fore edge of text block. Pages also tanned but are otherwise clean and unmarked. See photos for condition.
