INSTRUCTIONS ON SETTING UP YOUR THRUSTER **** PLEASE READ BEFORE USE ****

The easiest way to set up your THRUSTER, is on your kitchen/dinning table or worktop, being seated, in a comfortable position, that way you can observe what is taking place whilst you are setting up not only for the first initial set up but every other time needed.

HEAD 'LOOP' SET UP:- The FIRST thing needed to be done.

1). Screw in all the pins so they are not sticking out.

2). Place your bowl on its running centre line on the work surface.

3). Unscrew and adjust the two nut/pins which are the ones closest to the central pin, so that these pins are touching the side wall of your bowl just below the finger grip/groves roughly with the same gap on either side.

4). Choose from the range of washer thicknesses which best fill the gaps between legs and nuts.

5). Unscrew all the 4 pins (exclude the centre pin) and put the chosen sized washers on to the threaded screw and then screw all four pins back into place and lightly tighten. (Make sure that all 4 washers are the same thickness as each other).

6). Place the Thruster head on top of the bowl (ensure that the head assembly is in a parallel position to the work surface) and check that all four pins are in contact with your chosen area on the side walls of the bowl.

7). With the head assembly in this position, place your hands on each side of the head assembly and with the pins still touching the bowl, lightly move (push) both your hands in a forward and backwards motion (away from you and back towards your body) to get the bowl running on top of the work surface. You bowl should be rolling smoothly on its running face without any wobbling. If you do get any wobble, then you may need to increase or decrease the thickness of all 4 washes you had selected, repeat the sequence 4>7 again.

8). When satisfied with the smooth movement, you need to adjust the central pin. Unscrew until the point of the pin is touching the central running face of the bowl. When adjusted correctly all 5 pins should be making contact and touching the bowl surface. It is import that you make very fine adjustments to get correct. When done adjust the steel locking nut up to the body of the thruster head and lightly tighten. Recheck that all 5 pins are still making contact with the bowl.

9). LIGHTLY tighten all 5 pins with a spanner. (DO NOT USE EXCESSIVE FORCE).

Then re-check to ensure that there are no gaps appearing. Adjust if needed. (All 5 pins must be touching the bowl). Repeat sequence 7 to ensure your bowl is running smoothly on the work surface and you are happy. You may need to make minor adjustments to ensure your bowl is running smoothly. (if needed repeat from sequence 7).

IMPORTANT NOTE:- You have now adjusted the head assembly to SUITE YOUR SIZE BOWLS ONLY.

If someone else wishes to try out YOUR THRUSTER, get them to use YOUR BOWLS (NOT THEIR'S) or you will need to RE-ADJUST your set up to suite their size of bowls and re-adjust back again to suite your own bowls. Even if your bowls and theirs are the same size, each manufacture will have a different profile shape machined on to their manufactured bowl and so they will not give the same results. Also be aware that this new person may not have used or seen a THRUSTER before.

ASSEMBLY:- Screw the handle SECURLY (do not use excessive force) in to the central threaded boss of the head in a clockwise direction to lock the two parts together. Reverse the action to separate.

TELESCOPIC HANDLE- ADJUSTMENT:- Hold on to the smaller diameter bottom tube and twist the larger "upper tube" in an anticlockwise direction to UNLOCK. Slide the telescopic tubes apart to the required length. As an initial guide for height adjustment, place the base of the THRUSTER on the ground with the top of handle grip level with the middle of your chest. Hold on to the bottom tube and twist the top tube in a clockwise direction to LOCK. You can make adjustments by reduce the length/height of the handle to suite the bowl delivery length required. Suggestion - use a marker pen and put lines on the handle denoting, Long, Medium, Short, this should help you maintain the same repeatable follow through during your deliveries of varying jack and bowl lengths.

LOOP SIZES:- The smaller sized loop is used for delivering the JACK and the larger loop is for delivery of your BOWL. When carrying out your delivery, ENSURE that the loop you are using is in DIRECT CONTACT ALL THE TIME touching the back surface of the jack/bowl. The action required to deliver a jack/bowl is similar one makes when using a broom by pushing in a forward direction and on the trajectory line/path of your aiming point. Start by pushing slowly to ensure the jack/bowl is running smoothly on its running face, picking up speed prior to jack/bowl leaving the loop.

VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION WHEN USING YOUR THRUSTER:- DO NOT 'REMOVE' your THRUSTER from the packaging and expect to start bowling straight away!. You will need to get familiarized using it. Try it out on your lounge carpet getting used to manipulating the bowl on to its running face and on to your required bias side. When you have gained a little experience you can then progress on to the bowling playing surface. START OFF using the jack, increasing the delivery length longer each time till until you can master delivering a full length jack. This will give you some experience before you progress on to the delivering your bowls. Start with short deliveries, building up a little longer length each time until you have gained sufficient control of delivering your bowl online and you can make a full length delivery. Periodically recheck that all 5 pins are in contact and screws are not lose.

Having carried out all of the above, you should quickly be enjoying your game of bowls and be getting the most out of your very 'OWN' THRUSTER’.

You can use a damp cloth to clean the the THRUSTER ASSEMBLY if needed.

The manufacture reserves the right to modify, change or alter design/specification without notification.

World Bowls have said, “it’s up to local associations to determine to what extent any delivery bowling aid may be used. They also point out that any local associations should be very aware of the disability laws regarding making the sport of lawn bowls inclusive for all before making their decision.
