An impressive association copy linking two important, pioneering African-American military aviators.

A first edition copy of the 1975 memoir of Tuskegee Airman and civil rights activist, Chauncey E. Spencer, warmly inscribed in year of first publication to "Ben" whom we know to be decorated African-American Navy flyer, Benjamin C. Hacker, the first Naval Flight Officer to achieve Flag rank when he was promoted to Rear Admiral in 1980. This was recently acquired at a Norfolk, VA area estate sale of a Hacker family member.

Laid into the book is a 4pp. card program from the 1975 national convention of Tuskegee Airmen in Detroit, an event both men seem to have attended and where this book was almost certainly signed, as the date in the inscription matches.
