Deutsches Reich

With the creation of the Weimar Republic the state of Bavaria ceased to maintain an independent postal service. From 6 April 1920 Bavarian stamps overprinted "Deutsches Reich" were issued for use throughout Germany. The series became known as the Bayernabschiedsserie ("farewell to Bavaria series").
