This is a unique and original tintype photograph of an elderly woman, housed in a beautiful 1/4 plate Union Case (K-36) of "Cupid & The Stag". The photograph captures a moment in time during the Civil War (1861-65) era, and is a stunning portrait that would make a great addition to any collection. The item was manufactured in the United States and is an original period piece. Behind the image written in the case in pencil, it reads “this was taken by Dr. Calvin Evans at Washington, DC” and written vertically. It says “this picture is my own dear mother.”

The Union Case is in excellent shape, with no signs of wear and tear. It truly is a remarkable piece of history that tells a story and evokes emotions from a bygone era.
