About the "String Theory" Series (courtesy the Merritt Gallery)

Prescott’s “String Theory” series is a testament to unconventionality. In an effort to constantly search for and incorporate everyday materials, Prescott creates a series of artworks unlike any other. Using resin to capture the free flowing movements of fibrous material (such as string and sewing thread) he manipulates one continuous strand of string, suspending it within layers of clear resin and embedding the form. This unique approach allows Prescott’s portrayal of everyday objects from sneakers to a tea cup to take on a visually stunning, yet minimalistic property. The “String Theory” series serves as a maze for the onlooker’s eyes as most people will try and follow the beginning of the string to its finality. Prescott has created a truly one of a kind series in “String Theory” that makes the ordinary extraordinary.

Artist Statement

“I have always been interested in experimenting with new mediums and using them in unconventional ways. I enjoy working on large surfaces, standing over my work, pouring resin then moving and manipulating it with my hands”

About the Artist

Born in 1982, Prescott hails from Lexington, Kentucky. He exhibited a passion for art at an early age; drawing with crayon on place-mats in restaurants were his first forms of artistic expression. As he grew older, he inherently knew he wanted to be a professional artist. His parents always encouraged and supported his art endeavors, and at age 18, Prescott left Kentucky for Atlanta. He attended the Art Institute of Atlanta and graduated in 2004 with a Bachelor's of Fine Art degree.

Prescott has experimented with epoxy resin combined with pigments and acrylic paints to create his signature style that is both surreal and ethereal. His subject matter lends itself toward abstract with hints of botanicals. His artwork contains striking colors that are both is dream-like and calming. The movement of each piece is inspiring. "I combine the materials and guide them but in reality, the art creates itself, telling me which way it wants to go. You just have to listen." Prescott has branched out into other mediums, including string work encased in resin, collage work, and heavily textured paintings of evocative shadows and rich colors.

Prescott is strongly influenced by Rauschenberg, Warhol, and Jasper Johns. His artwork has shown in galleries and exhibitions in Charleston, SC, Jacksonville, FL, Chattanooga, TN, and Atlanta, GA. His artwork is collected worldwide.
