This truly stunning silver coin has been issued by the National Bank of Kazakhstan to pay tribute to the largest of the four big cats in the genus Panthera. These tigers inhabit a variety of territories from forests, woodlands, savannah grasslands to rocky country of Asia.

  On the obverse of the tiger coin, there is the State Emblem of the Republic of Kazakhstan depicted against the ornamental background. The lower part of the coin comprises the inscription of its face value. Along the rim of the tiger coin, there is the embossed legend “Republic Of Kazakhstan” both in Kazakh and Russian separated by dots.

   The beautifully designed reverse represents the gilded image of the Panthera tigris with two sparkling diamonds in its eyes. The word "tiger" is taken from the Greek word "tigris", which is possibly derived from a Persian word meaning "arrow", a reference to the animal's speed. Below the image, there is the trademark of Kazakhstan Mint of the National Bank of Kazakhstan. The upper part of the 2009 silver coin comprises the inscription of its mintage year, while, along the rim of the coin, there is the legend indicating the name of the tiger both in Latin and English.
