A stunning large French antique bronzed spelter sculpture depicting an allegorical athletic young partly nude man holding a science book with the words ‘’PHYSIQUE – CHIMIE – GÉOMÉTRIE’’ (Physics-Chemistry-Geometry) in the left hand and a compass in his right hand, the subject is entitled LES SCIENCES (The Sciences), signed at the base ‘’E. PICAULT’’ (for the famous French sculptor Émile Louis Picault 1833-1915), beautiful sculpture details and rich brown original patina, in very good condition overall, only one crack to the upper right bicep and under right foot, minor loss of patina to one corner of the base, a very rare sculpture subject especially in this size, made in France, circa 1890s
