Used Selmer Paris S80 C* Hard Rubber Mouthpiece for Alto Sax 0.060-inch/1.524mm

Here we have a very standard mouthpiece for concert band, the Selmer Paris S80 C* for alto saxophone, tip opening measures slightly beyond 0.060-inch/1.524mm. This mouthpiece is a classic, first released with the original Super Action 80 series 1 in 1980. The S80 was the first Selmer mouthpiece to have a fully squared chamber, and plays with a dark, compact sonic character.

This mouthpiece is in used condition, so it has a few blemishes on the beak from teeth marks, ligature scrapes across the body generally. There are even a few divots in the side rails, rail tip, and table, a chip on the tip as well. In spite of all these battle scars, this piece persists and plays on! None of the original engraving paint remains, but you can read it clear as day. No crack in the shank forming, fortunately. It is worth noting, the tip opening on this mouthpiece is more closed than most C* mouthpieces will measure.

The S80 sonically has a dark, compact character that professionals can almost call out blindfolded. The sidewalls being flat help efficiently direct airflow to the squared chamber, the baffle has a slight roll to the tip to aid in projection. If you really push it, like on any mouthpiece, you can get a brighter spread character from it, but this mouthpiece is really designed for classical playing. State competitions, solo and ensemble, concert band, and sax quartet are great uses for this mouthpiece, students looking to step up their sound from a stock piece to a professional level mouthpiece would get a lot of use from this, you'd hear an instantaneous improvement in your sonic concept.

We will ship this mouthpiece as it is in the photos, with no ligature nor a mouthpiece cap.
