Offered is a fabulous antique Murano ripple slag glass with ornate shell motif Victorian bronze nine panel frame 16" kerosene banquet or piano lamp shade. It could also be used on a converted gas or electric lamp with the appropriate 4" fitter. Shade is 9" tall. I have attributed the glass to Murano as signed examples of this unique yellow slag glass are found in some signed Bradley and Hubbard shades made prior to 1910. The frame is also not signed. This yellow slag glass is distinct from the typical caramel colored commonly found in slag glass lamps. Signed examples of this glass can be found on both Ebay and on Live Auctioneers in early 1900's lamps. Besides the dramatic cast bronze frame finding rippled glass in a lamp shade is very rare as this uncommon glass style is usually found in stained glass windows. The frame itself is very unusual as the castings have a lot of 3 dimensional depth which adds greatly to the overall appearance. I believe the shade was made somewhere between 1890 and 1910 and most likely the very early 1900's. I feel pretty strongly about the attribution but cannot guarantee. Regardless it is a high end shade with rare ripple (like drapery glass) and yellow slag glass. If you know a different attribution and care to share I would appreciate.

Condition also detailed in close-up pictures:

Patina - Original dark bronze patina is in excellent overall condition throughout.

Glass - There is no missing glass and all glass is secure in frame. Seven of the nine panels are excellent. One panel has a horizontal crack under the frame close to the top which is not readily seen. The panel next to it has a vertical crack towards one side that is visible. This crack curves back to the frame and towards the top is a triangular crack that emanates and runs to the other side. The triangular cracks is not very visible. The complete crack can be clearly seen in the inside close-up lighted from behind. If desired this could be further secured and appearance improved by using glass super glue. Or it could be professionally restored for both security and appearance. I will tape when shipped. I use the clear packing tape and make a tab for easy removal. Regardless the glass damage is just not that noticeable when in use particularly when positioned to the back.

Frame - One side of the top appears to be slightly bent downwards. Very slight. The top tip, 1/ 3/4", of one panel was broken off and butt soldered on. The repair is not readily noticeable and the solder, though secure, would break easier if miss-handled. The patina is darkened near the repair.

This is truly a very unique highly decorative and uncommon antique slag glass shade.

I pack well for safe and secure shipping. Shade will be double boxed. Insurance included in shipping and any signature requirement.
