The Wire of Death " DEATH WIRE "- The Wire of Death. In 1915 the Germans constructed an electric fence for 125 miles Belgian border with the Netherlands. The purpose was to prevent crossings of the border: volunteers for the French army and Belgian army, spies, clandestine post deliverers, smugglers, refugees, resistance fighters . It needed less German soldiers to guard Dutch border. Estimates suggest as many as three thousand people were electrocuted by the fence.
