THE STUNNING FIRST EDITION OF CHAUMETON'S FLORE MEDICALE WITH OVER 400 FINELY COLOURED PLATES IN BEAUTIFUL FINE BINDINGS!

-------------------

Illustrated with numerous beautiful hand coloured plates of different flowers and plants used for medicinal purposes, and several plates not explicitly for medical purposes despite the title, for example the banana, melon, pineapple, etc.

This edition is very well attested to and highly desirable for being such a fantastic example of finely coloured plates. It is described in Great Flower Books pp.53 and remains to this day one of the greatest printed works in the genre.

A complete set in much inferior bindings recently sold at Sotheby's November 29th 2022 lot 291, realising £3,528 GBP.

-------------------

Size: 131 x 205 mm (approx., each)

Condition:

[t.p., v-xvi, 209pp.]; [t.p., 236pp.]; [t.p., pp.5-265]; [t.p., pp.5-266]; [t.p., pp.1-166, pp.169-280]; [t.p., pp.5-271]; [t.p., 8pp., i-viii, 278pp., 5pp., plates]; [t.p., pp.5-174, pp.1-3, pp.1-4, plates, t.p., i-ii, pp.9-199, 1pp., foldout]

Near contemporary half calf over marbled paper backed boards very finely tooled in gilt with tooled morocco labels uniformly laid to spines. Very attractive on the shelf, a beautiful set indeed. Minor shelf/edge wear else externally very good or better, though with boards scuffed to varying degrees as typical. Generally very clean throughout the text blocks, mildly toned but no more than as commensurate with expectation. Volume 5 lacks 19 plates and the leaf numbered 167-168. Volume 7 plates are bound at the rear rather than throughout like in the other volumes. Volume 8 plates bound at the rear of the first text. One foldout table (only), of two, else the other volumes collate as complete, thus the set contains a total of 406 plates of a total of 425. Very large foldout table present at the rear of volume eight torn and foxed as pictured.

About WoodPaz Books:

WoodPaz Books is an online antiquarian and rare book shop dedicated to great customer service and secure eco-friendly packaging. We know how frustrating it is to receive a book in sub-standard packaging, especially an expensive one! That's why every single one of our books is sent generously wrapped in bio-degradable bubblewrap housed in a sturdy cardboard box, irrespective of price. We mostly use Royal Mail, but occasionally use other providers for heavy orders, or orders for more than £2,500. We really do strive for the accuracy of our descriptions and condition reports in each listing. We aim to mention all of the main areas of the condition: the spine, hinges, joints, boards, page edges, page block, etc. We are highly knowledgeable on books and love talking about them! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.

If you have any issues with any aspect of your order, please contact us first before leaving feedback and we will endeavour to rectify any issues. Our return rate is less than 1%, and many book-lovers swear by us as their source for luxury books. Thank you for considering us!
