Description

1966 Oldsmobile Toronado Deluxe Coupe

Listed on behalf of the owner.
Located near PORTLAND, OREGON.
When Oldsmobile introduced the Toronado in 1966, it was the first American production front-wheel-drive car since the Cord 812 in 1937. It created a sensation at the time with great styling, power and handling, leading the way for the front-wheel-drive revolution in the 1970s.

This particular Toronado was produced during the first week of April, 1966 at the Olds Lansing, Michigan plant. It was purchased new from Rudman Oldsmobile in Highland Park, Illinois on June 8, 1966 by a gentleman from Indiana who kept it for the rest of his life (41 years) before it passed to his son in 2007, who has kept it since that time. Always garaged since new, it now resides in Oregon. Odometer shows 108,000 miles (an average of just 1,862 miles per year since 1966.)

Finished in deep "Forest Mist" green metallic paint from the factory, it received a full repaint in 1997, which presents nicely today with a deep shine and only normral signs of use, as the photos show here. Excellent panel fit with no signs of body rust or damage. The original Fawn Beige vinyl interior shows well, with no rips or tears. Carpeting replaced. Beautiful, bright original chrome. Good original glass. Windshield wipers work. Original rubber seals throughout show age. The power windows and seat operate intermittently. The heater/AC switch does not work. Original AM radio hums but does not sing. All lights work. "Hideaway" headlight doors operate slowly. Newer radial tires wrap the original Toronado wheels, topped by excellent original hubcaps. Nice trunk with original spare wheel/tire (with hubcap) and original jack. Clean undercarriage. Presents well for local showing and enjoyable driving.

PLEASE SEE PHOTOS WHICH WERE JUST TAKEN FOR THIS LISTING AND SHOW CURRENT CONDITION.

The original Olds 425 cubic inch, 385 horsepower, high-compression V8 runs smoothly and quietly with plenty of power. No smoke or issues. Under the son's current ownership, the brake system has also been rebuilt. Stops smooth and straight. The TurboHydramatic transmission was fully rebuilt in May, 2023 at a total cost of $3,410.00 and shiftys perfectly. Has seen limited use since that time. I have personally driven this car and it operates well on the road at all speeds. Fitted with newer analog gauges under the dash for accurate monitoting of the oil pressure, coolant temperature and electrical system. Original factory ttilt/telescopic steering wheel operates as-new and is in excellent condition with no cracks or damage.

PLEASE SEE VIDEO OF ENGINE RUNNING AND CAR DRIVING.

Overall this a solid, original, one-family-owned first year Toronado that can be enjoyed now, or taken to the next level. A reasonable reserve has been placed on this car in keeping with its condition. Please bid accordingly.

WE WILL HAPPILY SELL TO BIDDERS WORLDWIDE AND CAN ASSIST WITH SHIPPING ANYWHERE.
