1965 USSR "LENINGRAD" RANGEFINDER CAMERA + JUPITER-12 lens, f2.8/35, M39
Perfect cosmetic condition!
Good working condition!
“Leningrad” is a small-format rangefinder camera with
a built-in spring winder, produced from 1956 to 1968 at the Leningrad GOMZ. It
is considered one of the most advanced serial Soviet cameras, developed without
any borrowing from foreign analogues. The Soviet stand with photographic
equipment, which included “Leningrad”, received the “Grand Prix” at the World
Exhibition in Brussels in 1958. The camera is in very good condition and has
collector's value.
The camera comes with a non-standard lens. Instead of standard
Jupiter-8 lens it has Jupiter 12 35mm F2.8 M39, which is wide angle lens, is rarer
and more expensive, since it is
copy of the German Biogon design.
Probably it is of 1989 make. (The camera judging by its number
is of 1965 origin.) Both the camera and the lens are in excellent cosmetic condition,
or even better. The lens focuses smoothly, and the diaphragm ring is a bit stiff
but quite manageable. It is free of scratches, fungus or dust. The viewfinder works fine, and its work is very handy and comfortable
since it has lined frames inside for using 135mm, 85mm, 50mm and 35mm lenses. Shutter
speeds work in the whole range OK! They sound right, and they look like not
having signs of slowing down because of spring aging. The camera self-timer works
but has a nuance: it does not fix down below after you wind it up and starts
rewinding right after you take your hand off. But still, you can make it work if
you press the shutter button at once after you leave the self-timer lever. (Watch the
video) Also you may encounter some tricky way of using shutter in position B.
For that there is a tiny lever near the shutter disc. I strongly advise reading
manual or watch some YouTube video for using B shutter. Also, while using shutter in B position
there is a nuance that the shutter opens fine but to close it you need to press
shutter button more than once. Apart from self-timer and B shutter problem,
the camera works perfectly. Full cocking of the spring of the motor drive provides up
to 15 frames, but I would advise saving the mechanism and not to go too extreme winding it up.
The camera comes with its original leather case.
