Up for sale, a 1993 Ibanez Affirma/Advanced Form Range Bass model A204 in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and hangtags. Introduced in 1992 and only produced until ‘95, the Affirma/AFR series of basses were among the most premium ever offered by Ibanez, designed by Swiss luthier Rolf Spuler and featuring elegant, streamlined bodies with versatile electronics and top-tier componentry including an AFR 4 single coil pickup, individual piezo pickups on the bridge saddles, a Mono-rail IV bridge with “Stay D Tune” flip-up D-tuner, and an AFR 2-band active EQ.

This A204 features maple “half neck-through” construction with a kralo walnut body; this uncommon construction technique achieves the sustain of neck-through construction while encouraging more resonance from the body wood, and this bass is also notably lightweight at 7lbs 9oz. This AFR 4 single coil pickup delivers plenty of midrange burp and treble grind, and the piezo saddles offer both detail and a plucky upright-esque quality. Of course, the best tones are achieved by blending the two together with the center detent Balancer knob, and the two-band active EQ enables a great deal of tone sculpting. This A204 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, comfortable action, and spot-on intonation.

The hand-rubbed Oil finish has a natural satin open-grain feel, highlighting the grain pattern in the uniquely-contoured body and subtle flame figuring along the treble-side edge. There is some localized scuffing on the bass side of the pick path, a handful of minor nicks along the perimeter and on the bass side of the top, and faint buckle rash central to the lower bout on the back. The smooth satin finish on the neck profile is immaculate.

The original hardshell case with form-fit plush interior and AFR logo badge on the lid is included, along with the factory paperwork and the original set of saddles.
