1942 Press Photo Baseball HoFer Charley ‘Red’ Ruffing World Series Finale

PHOTO DESCRIPTION: No crowd, no jubilant teammates greeted this ball player as he wakes aloe and silently into the dressing room at the Yankee Stadium after the World Series finale Oct 5. For Charley Ruffing it was the end of a disastrous day and possibly the end of his big league career. “Old Red”, who soon may enter the armed forces, had pitched a losing game - and there was no joy in his heart.
