Nonetheless is the upcoming fifteenth studio album by English synth-pop duo Pet Shop Boys, scheduled to be released on 26 April 2024 through the band's own label x2 and Parlophone. It was produced by James Ford of Simian Disco Mobile fame and mostly recorded at his East London studio throughout last year. Their first album for Parlophone since Elysium in 2012, its four-year gap with Hotspot (2020) marks their longest period between studio albums to date. It was preceded by the single "Loneliness", released alongside the album announcement.
Japan only bonus track "Clean Air Hybrid Electric Bus"
This 2CD deluxe Japanese edition of “Nonetheless“ includes the bonus five-track EP, “Furthermore”, featuring completely new recordings of “Heart”, “Being boring”, “Always on my mind”, “It’s a sin” and Japan only bonus track "Clean Air Hybrid Electric Bus". Written in January 2015 and originally titled simply "Clean Air Hybrid", this extra track was inspired by Neil having noticed—what else?—a clean air hybrid bus while taking a walk in New York City. He has described the recording as "a little bit psychedelic" and said that it would probably become a b-side at some point.
Pet Shop Boys on upcoming album Nonetheless
“We wanted this album to be a celebration of the unique and diverse emotions that make us human,” Neil Tennent and Chris Lowe said.
“From the more dance-orientated tracks to the raw poignancy of the introspective ballads, with their beautiful string arrangements, each track tells a story and contributes to the overall narrative of the album.”
“We’re very excited to release this new album. Its 10 tracks are the strongest indicators of where we are today. Like much of our music, it’s very reflective.
“Some of the record is quite heartbreaking, but we hope a lot of it is also uplifting. It’s a record we’re very proud of.”
