This is an original Siamese MauserType 45 bayonet and scabbard. It is in good to very good condition, with original wood grips and finish to the bayonet and scabbard. The bayonet measures 14 1/2 inches in overall length, with a blade that is 9 3/4 inches. The scabbard is 10 5/8 inches from throat to tip. The bayonet has Siamese (Thai) characters on the pommel and on the ricasso just above the guard.

The following information about theType 45 bayonets is from the very helpful website Worldbayonets.com: The characters on the ricasso say "R.S. 121" in Siamese, which represents the year 1903 on the Gregorian (western) Calendar. "R.S. 121" is anabbreviation for Rattanakosin Sok 121. This refers to the 121st year of the Rattanakosin Era, which began with the founding of Bangkok in 1782.

The inspection marking on the pommel below the serial number is the Siamese character equivalent to the English letter B. This identifies this bayonet as belonging to the first contract of 20,000 produced. 40,000 Type 45 rifles and bayonets were produced in1903 at the Imperial Japanese Army Arsenal at Tokyo (Kowisikawa). Mauser was inundated with large rifle orders for the German and Turkish governments, so licensed production in Japan. The Siamese Type 45 bayonet was the first Mauser bayonet to conform to what was known in the west as the M1904. Because of this, the Siamese Type 45 bayonet and M1904 Mauser bayonet are interchangeable.

Condition of the bayonet is good to very good. Its wood grips show use and wear, with dings and scratches to the wood, but are firmly attached. The guard is solid, the mortise is in good shape, the press stud for attaching to the rifle is in fine shape and workslike it should. The blade has some wear to the finish and the tip is a bitrounded, but overall in good shape. The scabbard is in very good shape. Please see photos attached.
