**Important to Note: The following in-depth interview done exclusively by CBS for 60 minutes II was used in part as behind-the-scenes footage for Paul McCartney's documentary “The Love We Make”. See here the actual exclusive interview as it aired on CBS.

10. 60 Minutes II 10/24/01: When Paul McCartney was in his early 20s, he wrote "Yesterday," It seemed particularly meaningful when he sang it again this past weekend. McCartney, the son of a Liverpool fireman, performed the song for firefighters, police and rescue workers and their families. Dan Rather reports. "I wanted to do something," he says. "Like a lot of people, I felt helpless. I'm not a firefighter but my dad was in World War II. He was a volunteer firefighter in Liverpool, which got a lot of heavy bombing."

Six thousand rescue workers and their families were given free tickets to attend the event, "The Concert for New York," at Madison Square Garden. Broadcast nationally on VH1, the event raised millions for charities set up in the aftermath of the World Trade Center attack. For his part, McCartney wrote a new song specifically for this concert, called “Freedom."

Rather took McCartney back to the old studio, and showed him a tape of the original performance. "Good group. Wow," McCartney said jokingly afterwards. "You had to take me back there, didn't you?” It doesn't feel like 37 years ago, McCartney said. "It's one of those staggering things about life, you can just literally seem a few years ago. And it isn't - it's a long time ago. But I have memories. Very excited for us as Liverpool kids to come to America and thn to suddenly be involved in something like that. A really big show. And then the reaction to it, I love. I still meet people who say, 'I know where I was, I was in our sitting room and’ And their dads invariably say, 'Those are wigs. They’re wearing wigs.' You look at it now. It looks pretty short, it looks pretty tame.”

McCartney's connection with New York has always been powerful. A year after their first Ed Sullivan appearance, the Beatles played Shea Stadium in Queens. McCartney recalls laughingly that the sound system wasn't very good. "If we thought we were playing well, it was a little bit annoying, because the people who came to hear couldn't hear us. If we were not in a very good mood, and not playing very well, it was a blessing.”

Thirty-six years later, he was the first to sign on for last weekend’s benefit concert. He says his love for New York played a part. But so did his own experiences with untimely loss, beginning with the death of his mother. In 1968, the Beatles' first manager, Brian Epstein, died at the age of 33. In 1980, John Lennon was murdered. And just three years ago, McCartney lost his wife, Linda.

Super Bowl Pre-Game XXXVI 02/03/02: "As a sports fan, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to be involved in the Super Bowl, and as a musician, I am honored to add my voice to the message of tribute that this year's Super Bowl will carry". Paul and his then-wife-cum-collaborator Linda talk up the video for McCartney II single “Coming Up” (which premiered during the broadcast), but Sarducci keeps steering the interview back to the pop legend’s pot habit. It’s an awkward sketch, but the exclusive reveals one interesting tidbit: If he could be any animal, McCartney would pick “koala bear.” Makes sense to Sarducci — those little guys love their Eucalyptus highs. Then and airing of a clip from the music video “Coming Up"

Paul McCartney The Video Archives 1983-2001 Volume III

19. VH1 Special: "The Best of Paul McCartney & WINGS Wingspan” 2001: The special features such rarities as seldom seen performance videos of the band, some Wings footage from the McCartney personal collection, his own home video of Wings in the studio, and an exclusive interview with Sir Paul himself by VH1's Rebecca Rankin.

Probably one of the most important aspects of this documentary is how they historically follow every single that was released by wings chronologically which makes for a very comprehensive look at the band musically throughout the years as a pertains to this current greatest hits release.

Paul sits down for this exclusive in studio interview to discuss the history of Wings and promotion of the new documentary wingspan double CD accompaniment. Included are archival footage of Wings in addition to the Beatles as Paul reminisces about the beginnings of Wings and what they were going through with the promotion of the various singles. The world's most famous Southpaw is recording his first album of all-new material since 1997. "Barring accidents, I'll probably have it out in September," said Paul. The as-yet-untitled LP will be the first release from the former Beatle since 1999's Run Devil Run, McCartney's take on a collection of '50s rock songs."Over the last few years, I've been writing songs. I haven't gone into the studio to do new stuff since Flaming Pie," McCartney said. With the material in hand, he just needed someone to help him produce it.

20. VH1’s Paul McCartney Weeks airs the following Special: “McCartney’s Town Hall Meeting” “Live Town Hall broadcast at Bishopsgate” 05/17/97: Paul was in London’s Bishopsgate Memorial Hall, to answer some of the more than 2 million questions that were proposed via the internet, one of these being from U.S. President Bill Clinton. John Fugelsang hosts a hundred guests that were invited to this event, that was organized and transmitted live by VH-1. A nice surprise was an improvised little tune he performed on an acoustic guitar with audience participation. Paul answers questions submitted from the audience and also via internet, phone and mail. Paul's humor throughout the whole thing is great. I love it when he blushes when one of the girls, jennifer, comes from the back to hand them a printed email. Really enjoy John Fugelsang, but I remember being slightly annoyed that he kept trying to demonstrate how big of a Macca fanatic he was. It distracted a bit from the interview, IMHO. Granted, I probably would have acted the same way in the presence of the master! The special shows for the first time a clip of the music video “The World Tonight”

21. “Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” LIVE performance in support of the live November 5th 1990 release: “Tripping the Live Fantastic”

22. Parkinson 12/03/99: in-depth interview with McCartney. Paul’s fairly innocuous artistic outtakes, laid down during an interview with Parkinson in 1999, was the genesis for the core musical elements of what we now know as Yeezy’s God level banger “All Day”. According to McCartney, the idea for the song - which became the unreleased track "When the Wind is Blowing" - came to him while in hospital after the birth of his second child, and he noticed a painting on the wall in the corridor. “There was this Picasso print on the wall of an old man playing a guitar. I looked at it all week and towards the end of the week I thought what chords he playing? I’m a guitar player, what is he playing? I noticed he had two fingers here. So I thought I’d try and see what the chord is, and if it sounds any good. Ooh that’s nice. So then I tried to use that as inspiration, and tried to write a song that only used two fingers.” And you can hear elements throughout Kanye's single, from the backing vocals to the chords, to the straight up sample of McCartney at the end. Paul performs a beautiful rendition on piano of "the Long and winding Road” and rocks out with the band for “All Shook Up”

23. New York Hot Track 1983: Paul introduces the music video for “No More Lonely Nights" apparently from some nightclub here in New York city. After the music video Paul is in the briefly followed by the music video for “Say , Say, Say”featuring Paul and Michael Jackson.

24. The 2001 Top of The Pops awards Ceremony Air Date 12/01/01: The first Top of the Pops Awards were held and recorded at the M.E.N. Arena, Manchester on Friday 30 November 2001 hosted by Jamie Theakston. Paul receives the very first "Top of the Pops Hall of Fame Award”. Sir Paul McCartney, who pulled out of appearing when he was due to receive the first-ever Top of the Pops Hall of Fame Award because of the death of his fellow Beatle, sent a message of condolence which was read out at a hushed Arena. Sir Paul said: ''It was a great honour to receive the award, but because of the sad news I can't be there to accept it. I would like to dedicate the Top of the Pops Award, with love, to my brother George, without whom it would not have been possible.''  In honor of the great loss of George Harrison the first ever award ceremony closes within an acoustic tribute performance of "Here Comes the Sun" by English band TRAVIS

Paul McCartney The Video Archives 1999-2002 Volume IV

25. Later with Jools Holland 11/06/99: Paul was accompanied by all the members present on the album, as he launched into "Honey Hush", which was a rousing beginning to the show.  During this rotation Paul joined Jools Holland (ex of Squeeze) at the piano where they chatted for 5 minutes, in the midst of which, a short clip of the Beatles playing "Hey Bulldog" in the studio was shown and the band members were introduced. Paul played "No Other Baby", the strongest track on the Album, and this sounded phenomenal. And finally Paul and the guys performed "Brown-eyed Handsome Man", followed by Jools joining the guys on piano in a punchy performance of "Party" which got the whole studio (and my lounge) rocking ! “

26. Paul McCartney Forever TV Special : The Concert for Linda: Here, There and Everywhere” : A concert to benefit animal rights in memory of Linda McCartney 04/10/99. LIVE from London’s Royal Albert Hall. The event was organized by two of their friends, Chrissie Hynde and Carla Lane. Comedian Eddie Izzard hosted the concert, with proceeds going to various animal rights charities. Chrissie Hynde and Linda had worked together supporting various animal rights groups, including PETA. Tickets to the show, with 5,000 people attending, sold out within an hour after going on sale.

Stars come out to honor the passing of Linda. Besides Paul McCartney's unannounced performance, the show featured more than a dozen artists singing their own songs and their own versions of Beatles' material. Among the other groups performing were Sinéad O’Connor, George Michael’s motional rendition of "The Long and Winding Road” and his hit “Faith” with Smiths Johnny Marr on guitar. Neil Finn performs with Sinead afterwords Neil performs “Don't Dream it's Over”, Heather Small, The Pretenders are joined by Johnny Marr, Tom Jones performs “She's A Woman”, Elvis Costello

McCartney was not expected to perform, as he had not done any shows since his wife died. However, he attended the event with his four children. After he took to the stage to thank the audience. It was exactly at this time that Chrissy Hein unannounced came out with Paul's bass plugged in ready to go with a smile on her face urging him to perform. Paul after pointing his finger at Chrissie he eventually puts on the bass and performs one of his and Linda's favorite 1950s songs, Ricky Nelson's "Lonesome Town." He was backed by members of the Pretenders, along with Costello. The song was Paul's first recorded song since Linda died.

He followed that with his 1963 hit, "All My Loving," originally performed by The Beatles. A majority of the night's performers joined him on stage to provide the chorus. Costello said that for this particular event, "there was something incredibly poignant" about the song's opening lyrics: Close your eyes and I'll kiss you, Tomorrow I'll miss you, Remember I'll always be true. After those songs, Hynde rushed over and gave McCartney an emotional embrace. Everyone then joined in for the closing song, "Let It Be."

27. VH1’s The Queen’s Jubilee Party at The Palace 06/09/02: Opening, VH1 premiered an edited broadcast of the Queen's Jubilee: Party At The Palace on which was limited to two hours of edited footage. Segment only includes content with Paul McCartney. Starting with Sharon Osbourne a host of the show interviewing Paul McCartney backstage. Then Paul takes the stage to preform “Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” LIVE performance. George Martin gets on stage and talks about first meeting the Beatles in working with them in the first recording session. The big finale saw Sir Paul McCartney come on for a medley of classic Beatles hits: 'Her Majesty'/'Blackbird', 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' (with Eric Clapton), “All You Need is Love' (performed alongside Rod Stewart, Joe Cocker, Brian Wilson, Queen, Eric Clapton, Cliff Richard, Ozzy Osbourne and Ladysmith Black Mambazo). Prince Charles comes out with Queen Elizabeth and addresses the crowd formally and then the show concludes with the entire cast performing 'Hey Jude’

28. A&E’s Paul McCartney: The Journey To Red Square Documentary 05/24/03: this is a somewhat re-edited version of what eventually becomes "Paul McCartney in red Square" on DVD a couple years later in 2005 however this television special air is in 2003 and is a 26-camera production team that captures the event. Besides the music, highlights include  conversations with respected members of the Russian cultural community, as well as footage shot during McCartney's visit to St. Petersburg, where he received an honorary doctorate from the esteemed Russian Conservatoire and dedicated a building for the future advancement of the arts for Russia's youth. The program was executive produced by Sir Paul, himself.

It is composed of footage taken during his concerts in Moscow's Red Square and St Petersburg's Palace Square. Songs from Beatles, Wings and solo albums are performed. Each song is interspersed with interviews regarding the Beatles' banning in the Soviet Union in the 1960s, and how fans had to spend large sums of money on buying records from the black market. The film also supports the anti-Soviet opinion that The Beatles were an impetus behind a social revolution, which led to the fall of communism in Russia.

Both "Paul McCartney in Red Square" as well as "Paul McCartney in St. Petersburgh", earned Mark Haefeli Grammy nominations for 'Best Music, Variety and Comedy Special". Red Square also won The Mipcon for Best DVD of the year in 2007.

30. LIVE 8 07/02/05: U2 and Paul McCartney opened the Live 8 Performance with “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”. This performance is historical as it is the first time that Paul has ever performed this song live. The song, “Sgt. Pepper’s” opens with the lyric “It was twenty years ago” and it was chosen to mark that Live 8 was taking place 20 years after another similar concert had taken place, Live Aid. Live 8 was a string of benefit concerts that took place at various locations on July 2, 2005 in the G8 states and in South Africa, and were timed to lead into the G8 summit being held that summer.

The Hall of Fame had pulled off yet another magical evening.

35. PAUL McCARTNEY IN RED SQUARE 2003: (VH1’s Edited Version): Go backstage with the Emmy Award-winning, landmark concert film and documentary PAUL McCARTNEY IN RED SQUARE, and experience the hit songs, rare performance footage and exclusive interviews that marked this watershed moment in rock and roll history.

Though the Beatles were banned from Russia in the 1960s, their music offered hope and inspiration to an entire nation for years. Finally, on May 24, 2003, Paul McCartney satisfied decades of anticipation with his first-ever concert in Russia--wowing a crowd of over 100,000 people in Moscow s Red Square.

The Beatles Anthology may be the motherlode for fans of the Fabs, but among other Beatle-related video offerings, only The Concert for George matches Paul McCartney - Live in Red Square for sheer emotional and musical impact. It's no coincidence that the latter two chronicle not just concerts but significant events--a memorial for Harrison (he had died a year earlier), and Sir Paul's first visit to the former Soviet Union.

For the Russian audience, McCartney's appearance in Moscow is little short of a miracle. The Beatles were banned for decades by the Soviet government, which regarded their music as the epitome of Western decadence and propaganda, and the fans' only access to the group was through the occasional photo or black market album. Their reaction to his 2003 visit is a mixture of frenzy and rapture; in interview after interview, what one fan calls the Beatles' "gentle intervention" is credited with helping to bring down the whole Soviet system, simply because they represented a creativity and freedom that had been almost totally silenced. And that's all before McCartney plays "Back in the U.S.S.R.," which inspires a response that simply must be seen and heard to be believed.

Elsewhere, Macca and his superb band perform a variety of Beatles tunes, along with some highlights from his solo career and stint with Wings. Considering the dozens of classics in the Lennon-McCartney catalogue, the majority of them never performed live by the group, he could hardly go wrong. Still, the choices are almost unerring; along with "Hey Jude," "Yesterday," and "Let it Be" are some unexpected treats (including "Getting Better" and "She's Leaving Home" from the Sgt. Pepper album, as well as "Fool on the Hill," "I've Just Seen a Face," and "Two of Us"). And that's not all: additional footage from a show in St. Petersburg features "Drive My Car," "Helter Skelter," and a powerful medley of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band" and "The End." The sound and visuals are good, and the extra features (including a brief parallel history of the Beatles and the U.S.S.R. in the '60s) are interesting. No, the Beatles will never reform. But Paul McCartney - Live in Red Square ain't a bad substitute
