Title:  IF SARAH WILL TAKE ME

Description: 14 full page full colour paintings. The book focuses attention on Dunfield's lovely, serene impressionist paintings of natural settings. This poetic first-person reminiscence reveals a man whose love for nature is the result of his inability to interact physically with the world around him or with other people. Paralyzed from the neck down at age 19 and ventilator-dependent, the artist has chosen to share his view of the world with young people through his remarkable detailed paintings and the inspirational poem Bouchard wrote about him.

If Sarah Will Take Me hints at Dunfield's love of sport and active exploration of the outdoors -- skiing, picking apples in autumn, walking on a sandy beach, playing in a field with his wife Sarah --and his ability to recapture the memory of his lost capabilities by revisiting the scenes of his childhood and using his imagination. The full-page paintings, done in oil (or heavy acrylics), show the colors reflected in ocean waves, the movement of billowy clouds through the sky, the quiet of a secluded dam overhung with willow branches, and the hush of a mountain ski trail traversed by a lone skier.
