Dresden Style Hand Painted Watteau Scene Blue & Gold Quatrefoil Cup & Saucer
Antique quatrefoil shaped tea cup and saucer. Nicely decorated with hand
painted courting couple scenes, and flowers over blue panels. With gold
gilt scrollwork framing each panel. Has a mark on the bottom which looks
like either a smiley vase or a crescent moon and stars in a circle. I
have not been able to find this mark in any reference book; however, the
mark appears on pieces that are identical to Marx & Gutherz,
Carlsbad, Austria forms and which are also decorated in a style that
seems to be particular to Marx & Gutherz.
Has some wear to the gilding, but otherwise good condition with no chips or cracks.
The cup measures approximately 4 1/4 inches wide including the handle x 2 1/4 inches tall.
The saucer measures approximately 5 3/8 inches wide.
This is an antique and may have small in manufacture defects that do not affect the display of the piece.
