Vintage Cloth book in excellent condition. Some light discoloration here and there but largely mint.

Eleska, aka Lene Schneider-Kainer, was a celebrated Austrian artist who was compelled to flea fascism several times in her life-- first in 1932 from her homeland and later from Franco's Spain. This culminated in her arrival in New York and the production of these innovative cloth children's books to make ends meet.

Eleska's series of facile spelling and counting books represents a stark contrast to the hell unfolding in Europe in 1941 (when these books were producecd) and this represents, at least in part, an artist's statement and a tool to help overcome the looming Axis threat through education, universalism, and humanism.

Thanks for looking,
Cheers.
