A beautiful and quite scarce door Plaque badge. This badge is hard to find. In addition, this is a late-war example. The differences between this one and earlier merit medals are striking. The metal here is aluminum, and the colors are painted in, not enameled. The badge features a white cherry blossom in a red circle with yellow leaves and silver rays. The back pin is of a unique type of the late 30s.  The balsa box has the name of the badge in gilt characters although they are faded.  The Imperial Air Association or Greater Japan Air Association was founded in 1922.The military then controlled most aviation related activities and technology in Japan.

The door plaque is also uncommon. It reads as,
財團法人 - Foundation  大日本防空協會賛助員會 - Dainippon Air Defense Association Supporting Member.

History;

The Japanese name of this group is Teikoku Hikou Kyoukai. It seems that this nationwide group
lead training to prepare the reserve air force by targeting the young. It operated with the
cooperation of the Ministry of Education.

From 1938 to 1945 the recruitment of school-age youths was done in earnest, and the
enrollment boomed. The training of youth military pilots saved the Army a lot of time and energy,
so once the young men were old enough to enlist (be drafted), many had a lot of experience with
planes.

Established as a corporation in 1913, it changed to a foundation (non-profit) in 1914. It 1940 it
was realigned with the Great Japan Aviation Association (Dai-Nippon Hikoukai).
