This is a very nice Vietnam War U.S. M1 Steel Helmet with Mitchell Camouflage Cover that is in very good, field used condition. The WWII steel shell is with a rear seam and sewn-in dark green chin straps. The WWII brass hook and claw closure fittings are in place at the ends of the straps. The straps exhibit some fraying at the bales. The Mitchell Camouflage cover exhibits wear and sun fading from use in the bush. It is marked on the brown side with ‘CONTRACT NO. 8027’ dating it to late 1964 early 1965. The resin impregnated fiber liner is of Vietnam era manufacture and with the dark green crossover webbed suspension system in place. The leather sweatband is very lightly marked with the code ‘DSA-1-63 -….’ dating to 1963. The helmet remains a fine-looking combat veteran that, undoubtedly, saw service in the jungles of South Vietnam.
