This is a nice WWII/Korean War U.S. Marine Corps M1 steel helmet that is in very good, field used condition. The shell is a WWII “S” marked Schlueter shell with front seam, swivel bales and is without dents. The underside of the brim is marked “S” and with the heat temper number “379A”. The exterior is finished with a rough cork aggregate. The chinstraps are OD green colored webbing with dark finished iron adjustment buckles. There is no fraying to the chinstraps at the point of attachment on the bales. A 1st type Marine Corps frog skin pattern camouflaged cover is in place over the shell that is with a printed Marine Corps eagle, globe, and anchor stencil at the front. The brown side of the cover is also with the stenciled EGA. The cover is without slits for additional camouflaged foliage and undoubtedly making it a reused WWII 1st pattern cover. On the right side is the handwritten inscription, ‘CPL. HRUSKA - 3 SQUAD – LEADER’ on three lines. The liner has green khaki webbing and is complete with the nap strap, and leather sweatband. The interior dome is with the letter “W” in a circle logo for the Westinghouse Corporation manufacturing firm. The liner is painted OD green and is in very good condition. The webbing at the front sweatband clip has pulled away from the ‘A’ fastener. The liner chinstrap appears to be a reproduction. Nevertheless, it remains a fine example of the distinctive U.S. Marine Corps combat headgear as used in many engagements throughout the Korean War.
