This is a nice, combat used Vietnam War U.S. M1 steel helmet with Mitchell Camouflage cover that is very good, field used condition. The shell is without dents and has both clip-on chinstraps fastened at the rear with the T1 fasteners at the ends. The cover is faded and worn from exposure to intense sunlight and monsoon rains. It is marked, ‘COVER HELMET CAMOUFLAGE, CONTRACT NO. 8133, DIR OF MFG.’ dating it to 1965. The cover is held snuggly in place by an original elastic helmet band which also served to add additional vegetation camouflage. The liner is a resin impregnated Vietnam War type with dark green painted exterior finish and dark green cross-over suspension webbing in the dome. The leather sweatband is faintly marked, ‘HEAD BAND LINER HELMET, DSA 100-1338’ dating to 1962. This is an excellent example of the iconic helmet used by the American Armed Forces during the Vietnam War and one that remains in fine, combat worn condition.
