This is a very fine 1957 reissue of the 1939 Iron Cross 2nd Class that is in excellent condition. It is exactly as awarded during the Second World War except for the swastika having been removed and the three-leaf oak leaf sprig moved from the center back to the center front. The ‘1939’ date remained at the bottom of the lower arm of the cross. The reverse is plain but kept the institution date of ‘1813’ at bottom of the lower arm. This series of crosses we instituted for wear by members serving in the Bundeswehr who had been awarded the decoration during the Second World War. The 1957 series of crosses were high quality pieces produced by the Steinhauer & Lück firm of Berlin who was one of the firms that had produced the 1939 series during the war. Accompanying this cross is a length of original ribbon and a 1-inch-wide pin back ribbon bar that is faced with red wool. It remains a fine, unmarked S&L example that is in near mint condition.
