Univox Custom 335 double cutaway hollow body electric guitar

This Univox double cutaway hollow body electric guitar pictured is in very good condition with a two-tone red/black body finish, three-piece natural maple neck, and bound rosewood fret board with block fret markers. This model did not have a model name or number, but is commonly referred to as a Custom 335. The model was produced prior to 1968. The model later became the “Effie” model in the late 1960s, early 1970s. There are 2 pick-ups and chrome hardware. There is no label or model number in or on the instrument, but the serial number on the neck attachment plate is 2149680. The neck attachment plate reads: “Steel reinforced neck, made in Japan, 2149680”.

Pots, switch and jack have been professionally replaced and wired to the original pickups, so electronics are clean with no noise or scratchiness. There is a three-position pickup selector switch and one volume and one tone knob for each pick-up. Tuners are individual covered gears, 3 per side, with chrome knobs. The truss rod is adjustable at the peg head. The neck is attached to the body with a four-bolt neck plate. The body is 2” deep.

The frets and fret board show minimal wear. The finish is in very good condition with minor dings and dents on the body but nothing at all on the neck. The lacquer finish shows no lacquer crazing. The Univox logo is missing from the peghead, but the two nail marks that held it on are evident.

The nut measures 1 9/16” and the scale length is 24.5”. The nut is white plastic. There are 21 frets on the fret board. The guitar has a replacement tail piece – a Fender trapeze tailpiece with an “F” logo. There is a movable bridge with a rosewood base and metal top with nylon rollers that is adjustable for individual string intonation and overall string height. The strings sit in grooved rollers on the bridge.

The instrument is set up with flat wound strings gauged .011-.044. String height at the 12th fret is 2/32” straight across with neck relief of 1/64” below the strings at the 7th fret. Intonation for each string is set exactly.

A soft-shell plush case is included.
