Up for sale, a 1964 Fender Jaguar in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with a blonde tolex hardshell case. This Jaguar features a nitro lacquer body-only refinish in Sonic Blue by Eric Daw (of Pin-Up Guitars and The Fret Files podcast). Produced early in '64, this guitar has all the essential Pre-CBS Jaguar features, with a wide bevel tortoise nitrate pickguard, Brazilian rosewood fretboard with clay dot inlay, and hand-wound black bobbin pickups.

With an alder body, this Jaguar has a particularly bold acoustic bark with plenty of natural low end. The original staggered pole black bobbin single coil pair deliver the raw twang for which these coils are known, and the bridge pickup has more body and kick than most Jaguars, cutting and clear but very full-sounding. The neck pickup is also particularly thick and meaty, with additional breadth and pillowy sweetness with the Rhythm Circuit engaged. Weighing 8lbs 9oz, this Jaguar has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 11-49 roundwound strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.

The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve, with round shoulders in every register and rolled fretboard edges, measuring .840" deep at the 1st fret, and .965" at the 12th. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard is a dark, tight-grained cut with clay dot inlay, refretted with medium jumbo fretwire that shows no wear. The vintage spec 7 1/4" fretboard radius has been retained, and the guitar plays cleanly up the 24" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut has Fender's "B" 1 5/8" width, upgraded to bone for optimal note clarity and sustain. The headstock face retains the original Jaguar waterslide decal, and the guitar has been fitted with a set of modern Kluson-style tuners that match the footprint and aesthetics of the original gears. There is a small amount of repaired tear-out in the maple adjacent to a few of the tuner posts. On the neck heel, the October, 1963 date stamp is clean and bold, with a flush truss rod nut that has needed sparingly little adjustment in the last half century. The L-prefix serial on the neck plate pushes production into early '64.

On the body, all of the electronics work as they should, with original windings on both black bobbin pickups. The Rhythm Circuit retains all original componentry, and the Lead Circuit has one modern CTS 1Meg pot and the original Stackpole Tone pot which dates to the 48th week of '63. The body routes are all original, and all of the original chrome control plates are intact with uniform patina on the plating. A Mastery M1 bridge has been fitted, and a modern Fender flip-up string mute has been modified to accommodate the Mastery and function as intended. Plastics include an original red tortoise nitrate pickguard and pair of pointer knobs.

The Sonic Blue nitro lacquer body-only refinish was expertly executed by Eric Daw, with light greening of the clear coat and tasteful simulated aging including lacquer checking and a few minor marks. The neck profile retains the original finish, with light lacquer overspray and subsequent natural palm wear for a very smooth, inviting feel

A Fender/G&G Deluxe blonde tolex hardshell case is included. The case features black leather end and handle, and two of the latches are functional.
