POLYGRAPH YEAR 1904

Impressive Polygraph typewriter, manufactured between 1904 and 1909 by Polyphon-Musikwerke, Waren, Leipzig, in Germany.

We are facing one of those rare machines that are very difficult to obtain. It was a very good machine mechanically, but it did not enjoy the desired commercial success and its production was very limited, so few examples were built. Without a doubt a very sweet specimen for first-class collectors. This company also manufactured the first model of Polygraph, which had a semicircular keyboard and was manufactured in 1903, and is an even rarer specimen than this one we sell.

The arrangement of the type bars, located at right angles to the carriage, is curious. It has a decorative plate that hides the type bars and gives it greater beauty. The striking system is "Downstrike", the type bars make a movement from top to bottom until they hit the paper, this system being different from conventional machines. This system was already known since the end of the 19th century.

In the center it presents a drawing with a huge building that, we understand, was the factory where these machines were made (perhaps it is a reproduction). On both sides there is floral decoration in gold color. This machine has a larger size than usual, it is a little wider and longer. It has a keyboard made up of three rows that allow you to write 102 characters, including letters, signs, numbers and accents. It is curious that two of the keys protrude from the sides of the frame. It was made of cast iron and enamelled in glossy black. Its chrome parts are clean and maintain their shine.

The machine is in very good condition, maintaining the shine of the enamel and chrome almost like the first day. The machine works correctly, when you press a key the carriage advances one space, although we have not tested it with paper.
