This
bugle had been in a Winnipeg family’s possession for about 100 years. It is in well-worn condition with dents,
bends, a stuck mouthpiece and loose bell collar, as shown in pics. No cracks or extra holes. I have not altered or polished it.
It
blows easily with a nice crisp tone and could be used ‘as is’ by a capable
player.
The
collar is imprinted with “1 M.R.
17”. I suspect the 17 is either a
date year or a military unit reference, not sure.
The
mouthpiece is stamped “Whaley & Royce & Co. Toronto.”
From
the information given me by the family member, it is likely that this
instrument served in WW I and went overseas with the Canadian Expeditionary
Forces.
It
will be a very fine addition to a collection!
