Original orange pictorial canvas, richly printed front and back panels in black, blue, green, yellow, silver and gold, dry-embossed publisher's monogram on back panel, green printed floral endpapers, untrimmed top edge, other edges trimmed. First edition. Police fiction focused on the theft and recovery of aeronautical secrets; prey shaded by a balloon, etc. It doesn't seem to have any elements of science fiction or fantasy. One of the bad guys is a French anarchist. Coxwell (1819-1900) was a pioneer of British hot air ballooning who made his first ascent in 1844 and was a strong supporter of military hot air ballooning. Various signs of aging on the covers but overall it is in good condition. There are various blooms on the pages and a generic loosening of the coast. See the attached photos well.
