A RUBIAYAT & ANTIQUARIAN COLLECTOR’S DREAM!

Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyan, A New Metrical Version Rendered Into English From Various Persian Sources by George Roe (NOT Edward Fitzgerald). With an introduction and many notes and references, and an original “ Ode to Omar.”

ABOUT THIS WORK

This unusual translation of the "Ruba'iyat" is a metrical version by George Roe—a prominent member of the Omar Khayyam Club of America—who has attempted to reach a middle ground between remaining true to the literal translation while also remaining true to poetic verse. A very difficult task. Mainly written in iambic pentameter, Mr. Roe believes that that form best fits with the English translation rather than the original Persian. This is a rather scholarly text with many interesting notations and historical details.

Published by Dodge Publishing in 1910 in New York. In original buckram binding with brown lettering and original dust jacket. Included is a lengthy introduction by the author, an Ode to Omar (Khayyam) and Roe’s version of the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam with extensive annotation a short biography of Omar Khayyam. Collated and complete. Octavo, 9” ” x 5.75”
