100+ years ago, when the men and women of the Stanley tool company were designing and manufacturing hand planes, it's highly unlikely that anyone would have imagined that these tools would become collectors items.  They would not have imagined that these tools would be sold on auction websites for hundreds or even thousands of dollars.  They did not think about Type studies.  And clearly they did not think that the use of a non-standard threads on the planes would cause so much grief to the folks that would eventually collect and restore these fine tools.
