Thomas was born in St Chads, Lancashire and resided in Manchester. He joined the colours on the 6th April 1915 and landed in France on the 1st August 1916. He was active in the Battle of the Somme. In the early part of December the battalion was at Ovillers as working parties they received 11 Military Medals for their actions on the Somme on the 13th November 1916. On the 9th December it was time to return to the front line where the battalion was near Courcelette. This is likely where Thomas was wounded and died the next day. He was just 24 years old.
