It can be used on any lens with a 46mm front thread for either of two reasons:
First, it can be used as a step-up adapter from 46mm to 55mm for filters or other attachments.
Also, it can be used as a 46mm lens hood shade -- it is MATTE BLACK on the inside.
It comes with a ring that has a 46mm thread on the front, but no thread on the rear. I have no idea what that was for.
