Beautiful original Arts & Crafts fire screen/guard, which I purchased from an antique shop in Worcester approximately 15 years ago. The piece is unmarked, but I was told by the seller that it was almost certainly made by J & F Pool of Hayle in Cornwall as it bears typical characteristics of their work.

I have since done a little of my own research on this maker and can definitely see a familiar resemblance between my fire guard and other J & F Pool fire guards and other pieces from around 1910-15 when Pool were incorporating fashionable Art Nouveau motifs such as this into their designs.

I may be biased, but I think this is the nicest of the J &F Pool fire guards I’ve seen by far.

The metal had wonderful scrolled detailing to the four corners, which adds to the presence of this piece.

It sits on three scrolled feet which make it nice and stable. There is just a little light surface rust to the feet which can easily be removed.

I absolutely love this piece, but I am now in the process of trying to scale back my possessions in preparation for moving to a smaller property in the future, so I am reluctantly letting this go.

It comes in very good original antique condition.
