Here's one for the aroid collector who thought they had everything! Arisaema balansae is a beautiful jack-in-the-pulpit from Vietnam with a mottled stem that looks like the skin of an exotic lizard. Over time, the evergreen plants form clumps that will make you think of a reptile garden. The inflorescences are a beautiful, contrasting green color, and a good-sized specimen of this species will be the star of any collection! This is likely to be the only plant of A. balansae that I will offer for sale this year. Don't miss out!

More photos of this beautiful species can be found on the International Aroid Society's web site.

Arisaema balansae occurs naturally in Vietnam at elevations of 700-7000 feet.  For me, this species grows very well under a range of conditions but seems to do best at cooler temperatures (summer highs up to 90 deg F; winter lows to 45 deg F) with good humidity.  This species is evergreen and never goes dormant, but growth is slower during the winter.  A. balansae likes well-drained, organic-rich soil and regular water during the growing season, with slightly less water during the winter.

The first photo shows two blooms on my mother plant, and the second photo shows the beautiful petiole. You are bidding on the plant in photos 3-6, a healthy plant ~18" tall in a 2.75" pot with a nice new growth that's just emerging.
