Description

A superb, very fine quality, vintage 1960's sterling silver medal on grosgrain ribbon necklace.

Comes complete in its original fitted presentation box.

The medal is fully hallmarked Birmingham 1964 with makers mark T.K&S for Toye, Kenning & Spencer.

The medal is very large and exquisitely detailed; there is an enamelled portrait of a lady in the centre, with a red guilloche enamel border. This has the wording BLACKBURN BRANCH N.H.F picked out in gold. The top and bottom of the meal has rich navy blue enamelling telling us this is the PRESIDENT medal for the LADIES ACADEMY. The sides of the medal are finely gilded.

The medal has a large gilded silver bail through which is thread the original navy blue grosgrain ribbon necklace. On this are two silver bar attachments with engraved names and dates for service. These read:

EDITH WARD 1964-1966

IRENE SINGLET 1966-1968

The ribbon necklace is very neatly folded at the back of the case (see image 11).

The case itself is very nice quality with a thick padded cream silk inner.

The medal measures 2.5" by 2" (not including the bail).

A heavy weight in silver, the medal is an impressive 57g.

The presentation box measures 6" by 3.25" approx.

In good vintage condition; the enamel at 8 o'clock (between N and B) is a lighter shade, more orange than red.

Please view all the photographs for clear detail of condition; they can all be enlarged for up close detail.
