Prudence Kitten '50s Vintage Hand Puppet

Extremely rare Prudence Kitten vintage hand puppet dating from the 1950s. She has a hard head and brown plush and pink felt paws. She's wearing her original polka dot print calico dress, including patch pocket, organza frill ruffle detail, buttons, and ribbon trim. She is in good condition overall but does exhibit some age-related wear, including the head being slightly misshapen in the neck area, loss to the whiskers, and some discolouration of the head and dress. Please note the head and body are separate but could be glued together.

Prudence Kitten was created for the BBC by Annette Mills, best known for her partnership with Muffin the Mule. Unlike Muffin, Prudence and her friends were glove puppets rather than marionettes. After Mills’ death in 1955, her daughter Molly Blake took over performing with Prudence. Prudence had a sister called Primrose and a brother-in-law, a pipe-smoking merchant seaman cat, called Nelson.

This is a wonderful piece of children’s television history that doesn’t come to the market for sale very often and would be a great addition to any Muffin the Mule, Prudence Kitten, or Annette Mills collection.
