3. The Lindbergh Kidnapping. In 1934, Bruno Hauptmann was arrested and charged with the kidnapping and murder of Charles Lindbergh Jr., the infant son of aviator Charles Lindbergh. The case was highly publicized and became known as the "Crime of the Century."


4. In China, the Communist Party led by Mao Zedong completed the famous Long March, a strategic retreat covering thousands of miles to evade Nationalist forces. The Long March solidified Mao's leadership within the Communist Party.


5. The Night of the Long Knives. In Germany, Adolf Hitler ordered a purge of the leadership of the Sturmabteilung (SA), a paramilitary organization within the Nazi Party. The violent event, known as the Night of the Long Knives, resulted in the deaths of many SA leaders and solidified Hitler's control over the party and the German government.
