Claim to Fame: Once the biggest artesian well east of the Mississippi, the "Wonder Well" it is now dry. Found while drilling for oil in 1903, the Wonder Well was listed in "Ripley's Believe It or Not". It became a tourist attraction, health promoting supplier of Sulphur-smelling water, a place to buy fireworks, and a major wetland for migrating waterfowl as it pumped out up to 2 million gallons of water per day. It closed in the 1990s and the building was demolished in 2014. --Source: Roadside America
