THE SOUTHERN COURIER Vol. 2, No. 7, Weekend Edition February 12-13, 1966, Published in Montgomery, Alabama from 1965-1968 this weekly newspaper was one of the few that focused on African American communities in the south during the Civil Rights Movement.

This particular one was a subscription of The Highlander Research And Education Center in Knoxville, TN.

"Highlander’s commitment to ending segregation made it a critically important incubator of the Civil Rights movement. Workshops and training sessions at Highlander helped lay the groundwork for many of the movement’s most important initiatives, including the Montgomery bus boycott, the Citizenship Schools, and the founding of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC).  -highlandercenter.org.

This newspaper is in fair condition, with significant browning, soiling stains, and other discoloration. There are several small tears around the borders and a small hole at the center of the front page's fold intersection.

There's a slight "delicate" feel to the paper, but it can be handled and read without feeling like it will fall apart -- a worn, softened feel.
