Lovley Small sized painting by William Koffman
William Hoffman was an American painter known for his depictions of Pacific seascapes and the American West. Born in 1924 in Montana, Hoffman was a self-taught artist who found painting late in life. He decided to pursue a career in art after visiting a gallery for the first time. “I'd never seen one before,” he said, “and I was stunned to learn that artists didn't necessarily always starve.” His detailed seascapes depict quiet moments on the coast. Many years after he began painting seascapes, the artist shifted his focus to Western-themed subject matter. Hoffman died in 1995 in Big Bear Lake, CA.
