Composition of Haritaki

Haritaki is rich in various chemical compounds, including glycosides such as arjunglucoside I, arjungenin, chebulosides I and II, and coumarin conjugated with gallic acids known as chebulin. Additionally, it contains phenolic compounds like ellagic acid, 2,4-chebulyl-β-D-glucopyranose, chebulinic acid, gallic acid, ethyl gallate, punicalagin, terflavin A, terchebin, luteolin, and tannic acid. Phenolic acid compounds like chebulic acid are isolated from ripe fruits, while luteic acid can be obtained from the bark. Terminalia chebula also harbors terflavin B, a type of tannin, and chebulinic acid in its fruits. Notably, the fruit extracts of Terminalia chebula exhibit antibacterial properties.
